LSIA wins an Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation grant

VinceJodieAssociate Professor Vince Geiger and Dr Jodie Miller from the Learning Sciences Institute Australia (LSIA) have won an ‘Australia-Germany Joint Research Cooperation grant’ with their German counterparts Professor Regina Bruder and Ulrike Roder from the Technical University Darmstadt. The team will undertake a joint research project titled ‘Designing challenging online mathematical tasks: Strengthening mathematical knowledge in pre-service teacher education’.  The purpose of the project is to design means for strengthening pre-service teachers’ mathematical knowledge and capabilities while taking account of the rapid migration of teaching and learning in education to online environments. Through this research they will develop principles of design for effective and challenging online mathematics tasks.

This is a competitive grant scheme that fosters research collaborations of the highest quality between Australian and German researchers for work on problems of international significance. Associate Professor Geiger, Dr Jodie Miller and their German colleagues were the only applicants in Education Research to receive support in the current round of funding. This is the first time ACU has secured a research collaboration through this scheme.  This award contributes to the increasing international recognition of research strength in STEM in LSIA.

Associate Professor Geiger and Dr Miller would like to hear from anyone involved in mathematics education at ACU who would like to be involved in this project.
